It’s that time again when Boom Shankar does what we love doing the most… mixing n’ matching! We believe the people that say, “you can’t wear that colour or print, with that”, are wrong… I mean, why can’t you? Is there a book of rules that we need to obey? We think it’s way more fun to stand out from the crowd. So here at Boom we say "just wear it!!"
Mixing N Matching is also a great way to give your clothes from past seasons a new life by wearing them in different ways. With everything we know about the impact of fashion on the planet, buying pieces you love and keeping them for more than just a season, or passing them on to new owners who will love them, is the only way forward to sustaining our planet.
So as we launch or Mix N Match sale, we thought it would be fun to give you all a few tips (or hints) of some Mix N Match styling to help inspire your creative wardrobe flow.
Layering is a great way to Mix N Match your clothes and especially in winter when we need more and more layers to keep our bodies warm. Layering creates new looks with some of your most loved pieces, and can turn your outfit into a colourful rainbow.
In the photos above Chelsea has chosen four different outfits with contrasting patterns (or should we say matching) and layering them to create fun, playful looks…
In the first outfit (left) Chelsea has layered the District Jumper in Mustard under last years Memento Wrap Dress in Pepper (which don’t forget, is reversible!) finished with the Tribeca Jacket in Empire - I think this is definitely a workwear ready style!
In the second outfit Chelsea has layered the Metropolitan Shirt in Newtown under last winters Lindsay Top in Puzzle and teamed them with our Kensington Pants in Brooklyn (rated this years most comfortable pants) - I love how she’s contrasted the Puzzle and Brooklyn prints in this one and thinks it looks fabulous.
In the third outfit Chelsea has layered the Demi Dress in Manhattan with the Harlow Top in Boysenberry underneath, and for a little extra fun, she’s finished it with the Dotti Jacket in Dots - This outfit is so colourful and playful, how couldn’t you have a good day when wearing it!
In the final outfit (right) Chelsea has layered Metropolitan Shirt in Woodside under our District Jumper in Mustard and styled with the Lux Skirt in Moonlight - This is another great workwear ready outfit as I think it looks smart, but also individual and stylish
Skivvies are definitely one of my favourite pieces to layer in winter. They’re an everyday staple, and to me it’s like laying down a coloured background on a canvas, before you start creating the art on top. Skivvies can style an outfit to look fun with their bold block colours, but also help smarten up an outfit so you’re fit and ready for work.

In the first outfit (left) Chelsea wears the Boom Skivvy in Midnight Blue with our classic block print Grand Skirt in Newtown and Muse Shirt Dress in Brooklyn, but as a jacket! - We love having multiple uses for garments and I think this outfit looks very stylish and smart.
In the second outfit Chelsea wears the Boom Skivvy in Sage under last years Memento Jumpsuit in Pepper and topped off with our Dotti Jacket in Dots - This outfit makes me want to jump on the trampoline or go rock hopping at the beach.
In the third outfit Chelsea wears the Boom Skivvy in Sky with our beautiful Soho Skirt in Manhattan and the funky African style Tribeca Jacket in Williamsburg - This is my favourite outfit of all Chelsea’s Mix n Match styles… That jacket! That skirt! So GOOD!!!
In the final outfit (right) Chelsea wears the Boom Skivvy in Sage under last years Queenie Dress in Pepper and layered with our warm and snuggly Dreams Jumper in Moss - I love the two tones of green in this selection, and with the classic dress, it’s a warm and comfortable outfit perfect for any occasion in winter.
Wooden Block Printing is a traditional form of fabric design we love and use a lot at Boom Shankar. It is known to be one of the earliest methods used to transfer prints onto fabrics and although it is a slow method due to the ‘by hand’ process, these results are unobtainable by any other modern method. The end result is a unique piece of fabric which can then be made into a beautiful garment.

In the first outfit (left) Chelsea teams our block print Kensington Pants in Brooklyn with the Harlow Top in Midnight Blue and our fabulous jacket from last year, the Lindsey Jacket in Puzzle, with our Scarf in Black Sprinkle - The comfortable but smart style of this outfit could turn it into a daily winter favourite.
In the second outfit Chelsea contrasts our block print Elka Dress in Broadway with the fun, colourful and lurex shimmer of the Soho Shirt in Manhattan - I think this combo looks great and with that little pop of multi colour from the neck and sleeves, just makes it unique.
In the third outfit Chelsea wears the block print Tribeca Pants in City Mix with last years Lux Shirt in Moonlight, layered with the District Jumper in Sage and our District Jumper in Mustard on hand, just incase it cools down a little more - Here’s another potential winter staple for your wardrobe!
In the final outfit (right) Chelsea combines our block print Kent Wide Leg Pants in Forest with last winters Fleetwood Top in Jaipur Stripe and the Poet Cardi in Mustard Tri to finish it off - I think everything in this outfit is so cute! And the Poet Cardis are so comfy and cosy to wear.
