The other fun products available in our Hastings Street store

If you’ve visited our flagship store in Hastings Street recently, you would have noticed how fabulous the shop is looking at the moment (we’re in love with it!) plus all the extra little products popping up in there. So we thought it was time to introduce you to our new friends.

If you’re looking for a hat that will keep the sun off, look stylish and be good for travel, then look no further than our Lorna Murray selection available in our Hastings Street and showroom boutiques. The Capri, which is Lorna Murray’s original hat design, features a mid-length brim and is carefully handcrafted from 100% Natural Organic Grass Fibres. The Capri is specifically designed to collapse and fold like origami, due to the sunray pleats, for ease of travel. Optional ties are provided at the base of each hat to be used for anchoring during breezes. The Capri is the perfect essential hat for those wanting an everyday sun-safe yet stylish addition to their attire, as a luxe fashion statement.

Lorna Murray is an ethical and sustainable Australian brand, where effortless glamour meets coastal bohemian.

Sitting proudly on our bamboo shelves are the beautiful works of local father and daughter team, Michael and Shelley Pugh. Each with a style of their own, their exquisite pottery is available in Hastings Street and makes beautiful gifts for Christmas (or anytime of the year really)

Michael Pugh established his first studio in the Buderim rainforest in 1971. His affinity and passion for clay and fire has seen his work progress and evolve in technique and style. He has traversed the world in his quest for exploration and insight, and has exhibited in both Australia and abroad.

Shelley (Michael’s daughter) is no stranger to clay and making ceramics. Her first memories are being given a small ball of clay in her father’s studio and of course putting it in her mouth and discovering that was not the purpose of clay. Many years on Shelley is creating wonderful fun pieces (check out Dui’s dinner set below) observing nature and culture around her and hopes to progress with new ideas and thoughts while always enjoying and being mindful of the great ceramic tradition that precedes her. Here’s to earth, fire and clay!

Our beautiful African baskets from Inside Africa are beautifully hand woven from Elephant grass, making these versatile baskets strong, durable & long lasting, and come in a range of sizes and shapes. The elephant grass grows surrounding waterholes in the Sahel region of West Africa. The strong slender leaves are harvested seasonally by the Fra Fra people of Northern Ghana, then soaked and stretched to produce a fine, supple, and extra strong fibre. Purchasing these baskets helps maintain the time-honoured craft of weaving, while continuing a long-existing fair trade relationship with the Fra Fra people.

African basket are perfect for the beach, picnics, overnight stays, even to work… I take mine everywhere! And sometimes I even use them as baskets for plants!

Our traditional Turkish Towel range are made from 100% of the finest Turkish cotton, come in a range of fun colours and feature tassels at both ends. Originally used as a “dry and wear” bath towel, the pestemal’s (as they were formally called) main characteristics still are today: light weight, comfortable to wear, super absorbent and very quick drying. The fine woven cotton fabric prevents dust and sand to stick, making it the perfect lay-on rug and an ideal beach towel.

Turkish Towels make a perfect gift (especially for a summery hot beachside christmas) and are a great travelling companion, folding up nice and compact, and with so many uses.

The latest addition to our Boom Shankar stores are the stunning handwoven, all-natural palm and coconut leaf fiber Bulibasha sandals/slides. Designed using materials sourced locally, each pair takes up to four days to create, giving your shoes an individual stamp of creativity and artistic passion.

Bulibasha’s designs found their original inspiration in the bustling streets of Morocco. Embracing a combination of weaving styles found throughout the city’s markets, organic materials were sourced within Indonesia, prompting a creative journey that has developed into this unique range of footwear. Bulibasha brings sustainable employment to Bali’s rich culture of craft and creativity, and their unique weaving techniques are taught to people of all ages within local communities. Growing together, their individual artisans have moved from single families to entire neighbourhoods, allowing their team to work from home in their own time whilst caring for children and tending to households. This is the stuff that makes us very happy at Boom!

Be sure to pop in and check out Bulibasha’s beautiful range of slides currently in Hastings Street and Noosaville.
